Neutral Posture History
Neutral Posture, Inc. uses pressure-reducing contours and custom-fitting adjustments on their chairs to support the natural “neutral body position” noted by NASA.
The company was founded in 1989 by Jaye Congleton and Rebecca Congleton Boenigk, wife and daughter of Dr. Jerome Congleton, Professor of Ergonomics and Safety Engineering at Texas A&M University. Dr. Congleton's ground-breaking research produced the concept for the Neutral Posture chair. Dr. Congleton thoroughly researched the stress-free position, which is considered the body's preferred posture, similar to the free floating posture experienced when you totally relax in a swimming pool or the posture typically associated with astronauts floating in space. Neutral Posture products were developed to help users emulate the body's preferred position while they work, because it is in this posture that the body achieves equidistant spacing of the vertebrae and an ideal balance in the muscles, tendons and ligaments.
What is Cloud 9 fabric?
This is New Technology in fabric. It is a 3D knitted part. It is not thread, it is yarn. It is not woven, it is knitted and comprised of a series of loops.
The new Cloud 9 fabric provides a more comfortable and ergonomic fabric selection and utilizes an environment responsible, "no waste" manufacturing part process in production.
Three-dimensional knitting is a revolutionary upholstery process. It is revolutionary in that it enables production of a fully shaped chair cover incorporating predetermined patterns in a single stage yarn-to-product process. Using sophisticated computer-aided techniques, 3D knitted fabrics are designed to follow curves and contours of the chair cushions, ensuring a smooth fit.
Three-dimension knitting is ecologically sympathetic. In addition to yarn the only other components are electricity and water. The 3D part fits the chair component and eliminates wadded fabric. It is a breathable fabric. The knitted fabric is manufactured by an ISO9001 certified company.
There are many "ergonomic" chairs on the market today that have similar features and adjustments but no other chair offers all of the adjustability and comfort of a Neutral Posture Chair.
In the "neutral posture position" the muscles, tendons, and ligaments are all in complete balance with each other. To maintain this position the chair must support your body. We have taken this one step further with the advanced technology of our Cloud 9 material and our multi-density molded foam seats.
