 PostureFit
is an ergonomic device available as an option on the Aeron chair.
It is made up of 3 elements:
- Butterfly pad
- Wishbone frame
- Adjustment knob
The butterfly pad is the central element of
the device. It’s what supports the pelvis, allowing it to sustain
a forward rotation, keeping it from rolling backwards into the void.
It works in conjunction with the Pellicle suspension of the Aeron
chair, molding to the user's contours to provide custom-fitted support.
Unlike traditional lumbar where more support means more pressure,
PostureFit offers gentle support, marrying to the contours of the
body. In fact, you may not realize it is there until you take it away!
The wishbone frame and the adjustment
knob work together to control the degree of support the user requires.
The wishbone frame also holds the butterfly pad in place and its
shape complements the lines of the Aeron chair, enhancing its design.
Like the Aeron chair, it is available in three sizes: A, B and C.
How does it work?
The butterfly pad is a flexible material that provides a third dimension
to the pellicle, adjusting to the contours of the user’s lower
back, filling the void between the chair and the user. It provides
gentle support to keep the pelvis in its natural, forward position
to maintain the natural curves of the spine. This works because
the pelvis is rigidly attached to the base of the spine so it is
the pelvis that determines your spinal alignment.
It addresses the root of the problem – the
position of the pelvis.
What about lumbar support?
Traditionally, lumbar support has been the solution for back support.
This approach addresses the symptom – the lumbar region of
the spine bending outward – by using pressure to attempt to
force the back into its natural posture. This often meant more pressure
equaled more support. Lumbar support can’t do what PostureFit
can because it doesn’t fill the void between the user and
the chair. It won’t provide the custom-fitted support of the
lower back, below the beltline, (sacral area) that PostureFit can.
The Benefit
PostureFit helps to ensure good seating posture. Body weight will
be balanced on the skeletal structure, as nature intended. This
reduces the workload on muscles, enhances blood circulation throughout
the body, and relieves pressure on the spinal discs and diaphragm,
which improves breathing and helps prevent fatigue.
Slouching, or poor posture, causes the spine to
go out of alignment. Muscles must then hold up the extra weight
not supported by the skeleton. Poor posture places more pressure
on the lower back, especially the discs that make up the spinal
column. This results in backaches, headaches, and other uncomfortable
symptoms, which can lead to more serious and chronic lower back
problems.
By filling the void between the lower back area,
below the beltline, and the chair with custom-fitted support, PostureFit
addresses the source of many back problems – the backward
rotation of the pelvis, which results in unhealthy posture. Supporting
the healthy, natural forward tilt of the pelvis, PostureFit enhances
comfort by achieving proper spinal alignment.
